Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms. All LDE events have elimination rounds at the district and area before the state level competition. Many LDEs and CDEs are qualifying events for the National FFA CDE competition and/or offer scholarship opportunities. For more information on National CDE/LDE support click on learn more below.

LDEs: Ag Advocy, Ag Issues, Ag Skills (Jr./Sr.), Chapter Conducting (Jr./Sr.), Creed Speaking (Jr./Sr.), FFA Quiz Bowl (Jr./Sr.), Job Interview, Public Relations, Radio, Spanish Creed (Jr./Sr.), team contests
Speaking Events: Prepared public speaking (Jr./Sr.): 9th only - speech should address a topic related to Agribusiness or Agriculture. 10th -12th select Animal Science, Plant Science, Natural Resources, Agribusiness, Agricultural Policy, Agriculture Technology and Communications, Soil Stewardship.

Animals & Agriculture
SAE: Real world SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) recognition. Examples of SAE include: Raising livestock or crops (ownership/entrepreneurship) to working on a farm or in a related business (placement/internship), to conducting research on agricultural topics (research) or even starting a small business related to agriculture (entrepreneurship).
Livestock & Animal Shows: Katy ISD Livestock Show & major shows like Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, etc.
